Try instead wheels of rosier tomatoes teamed with excellent fresh mozzarella and fresh basil or with slices of sweet onion. Skip the mixed green salad for two ours was a pitiful affair, which included anemic tomatoes. The menu is one typical of most steakhouses - short and to the point - listing standard openers and vegetables, a number of aged prime meats, a couple of ho-hum dishes for abstainers and a few desserts. The attempt at old steakhouse nostalgia works, and strangers to this area would never guess that this building had undergone extensive renovation before its opening as recently as mid-January. The "Ye Olde" part of this restaurant's name is supplied by dark wainscoting, hardwood flooring, photographs of Old Mamaroneck, various mellowed pictures and, perhaps, the Ink Spots singing over the loudspeakers. They will know, however, that this kitchen prepares a good steak - what they crowd the dining rooms for - and that is really all they need to know. Diners are spared information about the temperature of the broiler or the heat of the plate. DINERS won't find precious steakhouse hype at this restaurant. ![]()
